What each series is like
In our words, from each publisher’s description.
Packt (Ian Neil): the SY0-801 book you can buy now
Each of the 27 objectives gets its own chapter, with questions at the end. Packt lists 500+ explained questions, three full mock exams and flashcards. Good if you want to follow the objectives in order, starting today.
Sybex (Chapple and Seidl): the long-form textbook
Detailed chapters with real-world scenarios, review questions in each, and Wiley’s online test bank and flashcards. Until the SY0-801 edition arrives, the 9th edition and Seidl’s 1,000-question practice book cover SY0-701. Good if you like depth and have time.
Get Certified Get Ahead (Shelley, after Gibson): plain English
Darril Gibson’s series, now written by Joe Shelley, explains topics with classroom analogies and leaves out detail the exam doesn’t need. Each chapter has an exam topic review section. The author’s site still promotes the SY0-701 edition, which is in print.
All-in-One (Heath and Rogers, series editor Mike Meyers): reading plus extras
A new SY0-801 guide in 27 chapters that bundles reading with an online practice exam, simulations and video. Total Seminars sells it and names no other publisher. Good if you want reading and hands-on practice in one purchase.
Pearson: Exam Cram and Cert Guide, SY0-701 only so far
Exam Cram is built around exam alerts, quizzes and a cram sheet for the final days. The Cert Guide goes deeper: each chapter opens with a quiz that helps you decide how much time to give it. Pearson’s store lists no SY0-801 edition of either.
